MSU College of Music announces new harp professor for 2008-09
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University College of Music has announced that Patricia Masri-Fletcher, Detroit Symphony Orchestra principal harpist, will join the faculty effective in the 2008-09 academic year, replacing Lauralee Campbell, who will retire in spring 2008.
Masri-Fletcher joined the Detroit Symphony as its principal harpist in 1988. She currently occupies the Winifred E. Polk chair, an endowed position within the orchestra. She holds a master of music degree from the Juilliard School and a bachelor of music degree from Holy Names College in California. She presently teaches harp at Madonna University in Michigan.
Masri-Fletcher has presented harp master classes at Michigan State University, as well as Interlochen Center for the Arts, and the University of Michigan. The MSU College of Music anticipates the array of abilities Masri-Fletcher has to offer its program in the near future, says James Forger, dean of the College of Music.
“As the pre-eminent harpist in the state of Michigan, we are delighted to have Ms. Masri-Fletcher join our faculty,” says Forger. “The level of artistry and professional experience our faculty members possess makes our College of Music a leading training ground for the artists and educators of tomorrow.”
